Selected Timeframe for the Setting of Invictus
Salve!
Time for another small update for Invictus. Last week I've landed on what time period I want to set Invictus in and what the state of the world is. In this blog I'd like to share a map of the time period that I've found on Reddit. It shows were the roman's where at that time period.

The time period I landed on is the late republic. You've probably guessed that by looking at the map :-).
That means that Gaius Julius Caesar has conquered Gaul and that the civil war between him and Pompey is hanging in the air. Around 49 BC is where I'd like to kick off Invictus.
The reason for this is that the end of the republic is a great match for the darker tone of a "mork borg" hack. This era is also recognizable and can resonate with a broader audience than just the Roman History nuts ;-).
I also didn’t want to drop players and gamemasters straight into the full-blown Empire. Not that the late Republic isn’t vast already—but when you look at just the darker red areas (the regions controlled by Rome at the time), you’ll notice a handful of places that are, hopefully, easily recognizable. From left to right: Spain, France, a slice of North Africa, Italy, Greece, and a bit in and around what is now Turkey.
I'm curious to hear if this choice resonates with you or that you'd rather had a different period.
I'd like to end this update by saying that Gallia (France) and Italia already both have their "threats" locked down. :-) I decided on what is causing trouble in those two area's. Stay tuned for a future blog or update to find out what that is.
Cura ut valeas!
